    Testing

    Overview

Electrical testing for domestic properties, often involving an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)ensures the electrical installations are safe and compliant with regulations. These tests identify potential hazards like faulty wiring, damaged sockets, or inadequate earthing, which could lead to fire or electric shock. For rental properties, an EICR is legally required every five years or sooner if specified in the report.Homeowners are also recommended to have an EICR every ten years to maintain safety and identify any potential issues.

    What Electrical Testing Involves:

    Inspection of Fixed Installations:

An EICR examines all permanently installed electrical components, including light fittings, sockets, wiring, the consumer unit (fuse box), and any connected equipment like shower pumps or storage heaters.

    Testing Circuits and Devices:

The electrician will test each circuit to ensure it functions correctly and safely, and will also check the functionality of devices like light switches and outlets.

    Safety Checks:

Key safety features like circuit breakers and grounding systems are assessed to ensure they provide adequate protection.

    Report Generation:

A detailed report is generated, outlining the condition of the electrical installations, any defects found (coded by severity), and recommendations for any necessary repairs or upgrades.
